Smith Mountain Lake State Park Boat Ramp saw extra business last Saturday, May 1st. Boy Scout Troop 122 of Moneta, Virginia was on scene to take part in a stewardship project for the park.
Scout Leader Gary Williams, Senior Patrol Leader Sam Mallory, Jonathan & Daniel Timma, Dreston Hawthorne & Joseph Whitehead worked along side Bernie & Dot Tipton who are volunteers from the Friends of Smith Mountain Lake State Park. They combed the shoreline, picking up any trash they saw and helped unload four boats stopping by to use Smith Mountain Lake State Park’s boat ramp as a collection point for this lake wide event.
Gene & Emily Chianelli (also from the Friends Group) brought their pontoon boat by to grab trash and debris from the various coves along the State Park’s 16 miles of shoreline. Together this hard working team collected over 500 cubic feet of trash, lumber & storm debris.
