Several organizations have teamed up recently to provide volunteer work at Margaret Watson Bird Club to install 9 bluebird boxes at various locations along the park. The boxes will provide nesting habitat for the bluebirds.
Another recent volunteer activity teamed up students from Friends of High Bridge Trail. The students were participating in Longwood’s “Big Event” volunteer day which encourages students to provide volunteer work in the local community. The combined volunteer effort cleaned up the section of park in the Prospect area.
Dr. David Buckalew shared this comment, “From the perspective of being a local citizen – serving as current President of the Friends of High Bridge Trail State Park – and member of the Longwood University community as faculty member, it gave me great pleasure to see so many energetic Longwood students working side by side with area citizens on this March trail cleanup activity at the Prospect station trailhead.”
Volunteers are critical to the efforts of all Virginia State Parks. In 2010 over 250,000 volunteer hours contributed to the operations of our state parks. For information about volunteering at a state park, click here.
