The annual meeting of the Virginia Geological Society took place a weekendin October at geologists attendeda field trip of the park and surrounding areas.
The selection of the park as the venue for the annual meeting was due to Bear Creek Lake’s central location where you canexamine a wide array of slate). The field trip focused primarily on new petrological and geochemical insights into the origin of various rocks. Much of the geologic history of the central Piedmont region has yet to be explored. Undoubtedly, this region holds undiscovered geologic surprises, just as it does with its flora.
