Come join us for a weekend celebration of southern agricultural life in Surry County, Virginia on July 18-19, 2009 at Chippokes Plantation State Park. Each day from 10am to 5pm, the park will feature live music, a variety of southern-inspiried food, 185 arts and crafts vendors, and educational programs.
This year’s live entertainment includes performances by Harbor Lights, The Gospel Country Messenger, Thunder Creek, Unlimited Access, The H.M. In the tradition of an old-fashioned county fair concessions preference is given to local, non-profit civic groups who offer southern-inspired food for sale. This year’s selections include pulled pork sandwiches, sausage biscuits, BBQ platters, pork chops, fresh-squeezed lemonade, Kettle Korn, pork rinds, corn of the cob, and much, much more!!
The festival gives local and national artisans an opportunity to show their wares against the historic backdrop of the Stewart Mansion andRiver House. Crafters will feature quilts, fabric crafts, iron works, jewelry, wood craft furniture, original paintings, leather crafts, ceramics, soaps, and more. It is a great opportunity to find unique gifts for weddings and the fall holiday season.
Educational programs are an integral part of the mission of Chippokes Plantation State Park. This year’s educational programs feature both historical and cultural themes as well as nature-inspired hikes and demonstrations. Hearth cooking, fishing, fossil walks, hayrides, and mansion tours will be offered throughout the weekend. There will be a special Kid’s Corner with kid’scrafts and activities andaPetting Zoo on the festival grounds for all to enjoy.
Admission to the festival is $5 per person and children under 12 are free.
