It's a Woodsplittin' Workday at Chippokes Plantation on January 10, 2012
On January 10, 2012 members of the Chippokes State Parkand work on splitting and chipping wood to restock the firewood bins and stacks around the campground and cabins. Proceeds from firewood sales benefit the Friends group which, in turn, supports special projects throughout the park.
Firewood is sold throughout the park and proceeds benefit the park through the Friends of Chippokes, non-profit citizen support group.
The public is welcome to participate and there is nothing like doing old-fashioned chores against an old-fashioned backdrop. The woodsplittin' work day is from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. Meet at the maintenance shop. Chippokes Plantation has been continuously farmed since 1607 and the Jones-Stewart Mansion is one the remaining ante-antebellum plantations on the James River. Dress for weather. For more info, please call the park at 757-294-3728.
The Jones-Stewart Mansion is open to the public for guided tours.
