This spring Bear Creek Lake State Park has renovated 5 of their campsites. Since the campground was built back in the 1960’s the campsites have seen very little improvements and most camping trailers and tents have grown bigger, outgrowing the small sites.
Most of the sites are badly eroded as well. This year we began a multi-year project to build low impact campsites. These sites are level and in many cases much bigger than the original site and can accommodate larger equipment and families. The new sites have a clearly defined camping area, therefore reducing the impact on surrounding vegetation.
In addition to a nice level site, campers will enjoy lantern hooks at each site. Unfortunately with 50 years of heavy use, most of the trees in our campground are struggling to survive. Almost all of them are hollow and contain dead limbs. We hope that the new sites will help us preserve as many of the existing trees in our campground for future generations to enjoy.
