Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park's Coffee House!
The time of year is almost upon us when the heat and humidity of summer slowly begins to cede reign to the cooler temperatures of fall. Beginning with bright, cool nights and eventually replacing the heat of the day with cooler air and an amalgam of mountain colors, the transformation welcomes one of the most visually awe-inspiring annual periods in Appalachia. While we still have some substantial heat left this year, the fall and winter months are on the horizon, encouraging us to begin transitioning from iced tea to hot chocolate and from frappuccinos to stern cups of hot, deep-roasted coffee.
To ease your seasonal transition, come shed the heat fatigue with a cold beverage or warm your fall and winter evenings with a hot cup of joe while renewing your spirit at the Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park’s First Saturday Community Coffee House.
Particpants in the First Saturday Community Coffee Houe at Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park
The Southwest Virginia Museum Historical State Park hosts its Community Coffee House on the first Saturday of every month from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Admission to this program is free.
While it is warm, music and refreshments will be available on the lawn, taking advantage of the Park’s beautiful outdoor arbor and the resplendent backdrop created when the evening sun shines upon the nearby mountains. When fall assumes control, we’ll move indoors to the unique environs of the Museum’s Victorian Parlor to enjoy what the community has to offer in a welcoming, intimate setting.
This program invites visitors to share music, stories, poems, or dances with the community or simply to enjoy the creativity of others in a one-of-a-kind showcase of regional talent. One of the Park’s most in-demand programs, the First Saturday Community Coffee House is a true treat each and every month.
Admission to this program is free. Coffee, soft drinks and snacks will be available for purchase. The First Saturday Community Coffee House is an open-mic event and is open to all family-friendly performers. All interested musicians, storytellers, and poets should arrive by 6:30 p.m. for sign-up and scheduling.
