This year a brave group of individuals reported for duty under the threat of rain and wind to combat the destructive unofficial trails that plague First Landing State Park. Armed with shovels, rakes, and post hole diggers the army advanced into the wilderness of First Landing. The mission is to stop the use of the unofficial trails which damage the sensitive ecosystems and are a safety hazard for park guests.
The army planted red maples that were over 6 foot tall as well as sweet bay magnolias and loblolly pines. All of these trees are native to the park and will help make these damages areas a continuous forest once again.
In addition to planting the tree the mighty army destroyed the trail bed and placed dead limbs and branches to slow the progression of the unofficial trails advancement. The old pathways were disguised so that there would be no evidence of human activity in the area.
As Napoleon said “An army marches on its stomach” so after all the hard work we needed to feed our hungry army. Luckily thanks to Grand Affairs for assisting with the food, this army didn’t have to eat rations or MREs. This army chowed down on hamburgers and hot dogs.
