Biking at Hungry Mother State Park

Douthat State Parkwhich was described by RoanokeOutside.com as Mountain Biking Disneyland:
"Douthat State Park was named one of the nation’s 10 best state parks by the Outside Family Vacation Guide and has quickly become a premier mountain biking destination. Some people refer to it as the Disneyland of mountain biking. There are more than 43 miles of wooded hiking trails and mountain biking trails to choose from, ranging from easy to difficult. Many park trails climb up the side of the surrounding mountains for several miles and reward mountain bikers with grand views and long flowing descents."
New River Trail State Parkis a 57-mile linear park that follows an abandoned railroad right-of-way. The park parallels the scenic and historic New River for 40 miles and passes through four counties. The trail's gentle slope makes it great for visitors of all ages to bike. Several places in the park provide bike rentals.
- Two tunnels: 135 feet and 193 feet long
- Three major bridges: Hiwasee – 951 feet; Ivanhoe – 670 feet; Fries Junction – 1,089 feet
- Nearly 30 smaller bridges and trestles

Claytor Lake State Parkoffers casual riding around the park. There are also a couple shorter trails to ride here which makes great family fun rides.
