It's cooler now. The hustle and bustle of summer has slowed down. The kids are back in school. We can get out and enjoy nature without sweating on most days.
Here are some really good reasons to visit Holliday Lake State Park this fall, other than the obvious: fall colors.
1.Hike to the Dam. It's the only way you can enjoy views like this:
2. Let the kids play on the playground. We have two. One playground for the older ones and one for the little ones:
3. Fish. The "Big One" is probably still out there, somewhere:
4. See this tree. It's massive. I think of it as our "Tree Of Life." You'll find it along the park's north boundary on the Carter-Taylor Trail:
5. Geo-Cache. We have plenty to keep you busy for at least a couple hours.
6. Sit quietly by the lake and ponder the meaning of life. There's always time for this:

Holliday Lake State Park is located off State Route 24 between Appomattox and U.S. 60 and from Routes 626, 640 and 692. Holliday Lake State Park is approximately 12 miles from the Appomattox Courthouse National Historical Park.
Drive Time: Northern Virginia, three and a half hours; Richmond, two hours; Tidewater/Norfolk/Virginia Beach, four hours; Roanoke, two hours.
