In honor of Earth Month, Friends of Holliday Lake State Park was awarded a $1,000 grant in the Cigarette Litter Prevention Category. The KVB grant program focuses greater resources and attention on individual localities throughout the Commonwealth and how they are addressing the issues of litter prevention, recycling, waste reduction, beautification and education. These grants are made possible by KVB’s partners Walmart and Waste Management.
The Friends of Holliday Lake State Park will use their grant funds to initiate a new cigarette litter prevention program developed to help keep their beautiful park beautiful. The Friends intend to purchase cigarette butt receptacles to place in strategic locations all around the park and possibly pocket ashtrays for frequent guests to help reduce the number of cigarette butts, which can be very dangerous during the dry windy season.
