On Saturday, March 24, the park will present the first program in a year-long series: In Her Own Words – Life During Wartime. Amanda Edmonds, niece to Abner and MarySettle (builders of Mount Bleak House), kept a journal from 1857 to 1867, and in it she recorded her thoughts as the world around her fell apart and changed dramatically. This program series brings her thoughts to life.

Discover, through her own words, how this teenager experienced the Civil War from her Northern Virginia home. The program will take place on the back porch of Mount Bleak House at 12:00 p.m. Immediately following the reading, please join us for a Sesquicentennial Social on the back lawn of Mount Bleak House.
