On April 6, 1865 Confederate and Union soldiers and a galaxy of generals met at Sailor’s Creek for what would be the last major battle of the American Civil War in Virginia, before the surrender of General Robert E. Lee’s Army at Appomattox Court House.
Join us the weekend of Saturday, April 2nd and Sunday, April 3rd to commemorate this historic battle fought on the fields of Amelia County. Visit the renovated Overton-Hillsman farm house where historians will reflect on the house’s role as a Federal army hospital during and after the battle.
Throughout the entire weekend, other living history programs and demonstrations are scheduled. During this weekend, the Overton-Hillsman farm house is open Saturday from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Sunday 12 – 5 p.m.
Both the state park and the Overton-Hillsman farm house are on the National Register of Historical Places and listed as a National Historic Landmark. For more information on this event, click here.
