On Saturday, March 12th, Friend's group bluebird box project. It was a beautiful morning to walk on the Cullers trail and show the new volunteersthe beautiful views on this popular trail.A fun time was hadby all asweusedGPS units to mark the location ofall the boxes. We did this so that wecan create a "bluebird box map" to make it easierfor volunteers to find particularboxes during monitoring season. We also took notesabout the condition and contentsof eachbox.
Plans are being made to hold another session soonso that volunteers canbuild new boxes and repair broken ones. The hope is that we can eventuallyhave a group of core volunteers for this project who willeach regularly monitora specific group ofboxes. One environmental science class ata local highschoolis already monitoring theboxes on the park'sCottonwood trail.
