A dreary winter morning was brightened by time spent with the Governor of Virginia
For two Virginia Service and Conservation Corps (state park, instead was spent with Governor McAuliffe and the First Lady Dorothy McAuliffe.

Despite the wintery conditions outside the mood inside the Patrick Henry Building in Richmond was one of excitement and celebration. During the event the Governor and First Lady announced theAmeriCorps and Peace Corps alumni to put their skills and experience to work for Virginia state government.

Andi Clinton and Linnea McCarty serve on the VSCC crew stationed in the central region of Virginia and work on various projects that increase trail sustainability and emergency preparedness. However for Andi and Linnea this day was an opportunity for them to reflect on their current service as AmeriCorps volunteers with Virginia State Parks. When asked about the event, crew member Linnea McCarty said:
“The way that the Governor talked about national and community service made me proud to be an AmeriCorps member and when he talked about the importance of what we were doing as members, I was re-assured in my decisions.”
Crew member, Andi Clinton shared:
"I felt it was awesome to get to shake hands with the Governor and First Lady and to listen to the good news while being a part of the process."
This is the first year that Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) that was developed in the 1930’s to create jobs during the nation’s depression era.
We are proud of the hard work ourVirginia Service and Conservation Corps (VSCC) crew members are doing. We are honored that these fine young ladies were able to meet the Governor and First Lady of Virginia.
