National Trails Day on Saturday, June 2, 2012.
The race will take place at 8:00 a.m. near Main Street Plaza in Farmville. The race will follow an out and back course. Awards will be presented to the top 3 overall male & female finishers and top 3 finishers in each age category.
The top overall male and female finisher will each receive a free weekend cabin stay in a Virginia State Park. Categories for men & women include: 10 & under, 11-18, 19-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 & over. Participation is capped at 200 runners.
Runners will follow an out and back course after starting on
the trail at Main Street Plaza in Farmville
Timing and scoring of the race will be done by Riverside Runners located in Lynchburg, Virginia. All proceeds of the event will benefit the Friends of High Bridge Trail. This event is made possible with the help of the event sponsor Friends of High Bridge Trail State Park.

High Bridge Trail State Park is a multi-use trail ideally suited for hiking, bicycling and horseback riding. The trail, once a rail bed, is wide, level and generally flat. Its surface is finely crushed limestone. The trail's surface and dimensions make it easy for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy it. Its centerpiece is the majestic High Bridge, which is more than 2,400 feet long and 125 feet above the Appomattox River. The original bridge was built in 1853 as part of the South Side Railroad. The current steel-tower bridge was completed in 1914.
High Bridge Trail is 31 miles long and runs through Cumberland, Nottoway and Prince Edward counties and the towns of Burkeville, Farmville, Pamplin City, Prospect and Rice.
