Boy Scouts of the Patrick Henry District held their spring camporee at Fairy Stone State Park for the second year in a row. 134 Scouts and Leaders camped out from Friday, April 15th, until Sunday Morning, April 17th.They were spread across the park from sheltertwoto shelter five.
Even though the weather was wet and windy for most of their stay, including several hours of tornado watch, thescouts hung in there.They even managed to find a few dry hours Saturday morning to complete service projects in the park. When you do the math, that makes for a whopping 402 hours of volunteer service. They cleared culverts, dug ditches, picked up sticks, repaired trails, and even replaced all the deck boards on a trail bridge.
There were also several educational activities over the weekend put on as a collaborative effort with the Virginia Museum of Natural History.There was a night hike on Friday, April 15th, and a short hike and stream exploration with the Family Nature Club of Martinsville-Henry County on Saturday, April 16th.April 23rd there will be an Earth Week Festivalat the Smith River Sports Complex in Martinsville.
