Camping with a view at Shenandoah River State Park
We review our “Your Comments Count” survey data and have noticed that an increasing number of our camping customers are requesting the ability to select their specific campsite at the time they make their reservation. The reasons range from wanting to make sure they can camp adjacent to other friends and family, to being familiar with the campgrounds and knowing what their preferred sites are, to wanting to make sure they get the kind of site they want (e.g. near the bathhouse, far from the bathhouse, pull through, extra large).
Hammock camping is only appropriate on some sites based on tree diameter and
width apartso these campers may prefer site specific reservations
(hike-in campsite at Sky Meadows State Park shown)
While we are sensitive to these requests they still represent a very small minority of our campers. The flexibility we have now in campground management with non site-specific reservations has made us reluctant to make a change. However what our customers want plays an important role in what we do. Our Campground Management Working Group thought the best way to make sure these comments reflected the desire of a majority of our customers and prospective customers was to ask you so we have developed a survey to get your opinion.
Our primitive sites at False Cape, New River Trail and Sky Meadows state parks (New River Trail shown here) already are site specific because campers need to know where to hike to
Making a change from non site-specific to site-specific reservations is a significant undertaking and one that would be difficult to undo should we take that path, so your opinion is vital in helping us make the decision. We know everyone is busy but this short survey can easily be completed in ten minutes. We would appreciate you taking the time to complete the survey by JUNE 15, 2013 (our 77th anniversary).
If you are willing to include your email address in the survey (optional), we will enter you in a drawing for $100 gift certificate that can be used for camping, cabin stays, picnic shelter rentals, or annual passes as our way of saying thank you.
