Belle Isle State Park, in Lancaster, Virginia, was hit by a severe storm on Sunday, July 12th. Fortunately, there were no injuries. All overnight guests were able to vacate the park before the storm hit at about 3 p.m. and day use guests were all able to get to safety.
There was wide spread damage through out the park and heavy debris in the mansion and guest house area. Some areas of the park are still without electricity. Hopefully, all power will be restored in thepark by Wednesday.
Park staff have been working diligently to get the park cleaned up and are concentrating on the campground and the mansion and guest house area. We anticipate being closed through Wednesday afternoon, with hopes of reopening Wednesday evening for overnight guests. The trails will most likelybe closed until at least the end of the week. Guests with overnight reservations for this week are being contacted.
