This year National Park Trust (NPT) is once again hosting the Kids to Parks Day School Contest!
National Kids to Parks Day is all about getting kids outdoors and active
by connecting them to their local parks
like the archery program at Bear Creek Lake State Park
The purpose of the contest is to help teachers engage their students with their local parks. This national contest is open to all schools across the country and in the U.S. territories. Students can submit proposals for a Kids to Parks Day event at a park in their community. NPT will award scholarships up to the amount of $1,000 to winning entries for each class. Scholarships will be used by the winners to implement their KTP event during the week leading up to May 18th.
Deadline for entries is Friday, March 1st. Winners will be announced Monday, March 18th, 2013.
Last year, Kindergartners from Yuma Elementary in Gate City and 6th graders from Elydale Elementary in Ewing both won a trip to Natural Tunnel State Park as a result of this contest!
If your students need any help selecting the park or doing the research on the activities available at your local contact the park directly or email me.
Save the date – National Kids to Parks Day is May 18, 2013!
